Since Valle de Las Leñas is located in the heart of the Andes and due to the annual volume of snowfalls, the behavior of snow and its control are one of the main priorities for the Ski Resort./>
GAZEX system is presented as the best remote control avalanches that has developed today. That is why with an investment of nearly two and a half million pesos, Valle de Las Leñas will install 6 new GAZEX in strategic locations, making a total of 13 GAZEX along the entire mountain, with the main purpose of streamlining the process of opening up the tracks after a snowfall and control the evolution of snow throughout the season.

How it works

GAZEX operates a mixture of oxygen and propane gas through a mechanism that is placed on the tops of hazardous areas, previously known tracks for our services. The detonators are connected to the gas storage tanks with sufficient capacity to operate throughout the season without refilling.

When the gas mixture explodes, the force of the blast is directed into the snow, which produces three effects:

• Creates a direct impetus for the snow to detonate.
• A shock wave produced by an excess of pressure and then a negative pressure that lifts the snow.
• An indirect effect in the snow mantle.

Los Penitentes Ski Resort Guide

Los Penitentes, in Argentina, is a medium sized ski resort with 8 ski lifts (3 chair lifts, 5 surface lifts) that offers skiers an impressive 614 metres (2015 feet) of vertical descent. Los Penitentes has 28 pistes. Los Penitentes is best suited to advanced and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. We have no information about the existence of any cross country ski trails at Los Penitentes. The closest airport is at Mendoza but the transfer time is 2 hours. There is accommodation located close to the pistes but we would welcome additional information about any hotels or chalets in Los Penitentes.
